Q: What is your hourly rate?
A: We only charge hourly for training, consulting and special projects. All regular bookkeeping is billed at a flat rate. We have been doing this long enough to know what is fair, and it allows us to multitask and spend less time tracking our time!
Q: How do you calculate the flat rate?
A: KTB has designed a Bookeeping Questionnaire that, when completed, allows us to give a flat weekly or monthly bid. As long as the answers are honest, the bid is good for a minimum of one year from the signature date. However, we rarely raise rates. Our first customer is still paying the same rate he was paying in 2002. Our raise comes in being more efficient over time.
Q: Does Keeping the Books handle income taxes too?
A: No. Although both the owner and the general manager are experienced in tax preparation, it was a business decision to not offer these services. Rest assured, however, that our bookkeeping procedures are designed with your best interests in mind from all perspectives, including tax. We can both refer and receive referrals from local tax preparers without worrying about overlapping services or conflicts of interest. Additionally, it benefits our customers that we are not
"slammed" at tax time, allowing us to maintain consistently high levels of service and responsiveness year round.
Q: How does Keeping the Books handle payroll service?
A: We are partnered with Paychex to handle payrolls for our customers who have frequent, complicated or abnormally large payrolls and turnover rate (big restaurants, for example). However, if yours is a single-location business with a bi-monthly payroll of 5 people or less, Keeping the Books offers payroll through our own in-house QuickBooks Payroll Service. For the most part, you can choose your payroll option - we don't charge more for one or the other. All payroll options are part of the flat rate bid, and you will not see additional payroll processing fees, ever.
Q: Does Keeping the Books offer Direct Deposit?
A: Yes, all payroll options include Direct Deposit.
* Note: Direct Deposit fees are applicable and directly associated with the number of Direct Deposit checks per pay period.
Q: What if I already have a payroll processor I'm happy with?
A: Great! We will keep the payroll services off of the bid, and log the entries into QuickBooks manually as part of your same low, flat rate.
Q: What are your office hours?
A: Our hours vary by time, day and, especially, the day of the month. This ensures that we are not too busy to add clients and that we are scaled to grow without any disruption to our services. If you become a client of Keeping the Books, you will be given a regular weekly or monthly time slot that is most convenient for you!
Q: Can you recommend a CPA or tax preparer for me?
A: Yes, based on your business entity, type and industry, we can recommend or set you up with a reputable tax preparer.
Q: What if we don't have (or don't want) QuickBooks?
A: Great! Save your money. Keeping the Books provides all reports in your choice of Excel or PDF formats. We do not waste paper, and we choose the
"greenest" method possible at all times, unless specifically directed otherwise.
